About Us

A Haliburton building legacy, started by a family in 1957.

In the Beginning

There was bush! In 1864, the first settlers came to Haliburton and settled on this piece of land first because of the river. A series of mills were on the site over the years until W.O. Bailey constructed a veneer mill in 1945. His daughter Lois married Wm. (Bill) Emmerson in 1953 and the Emmerson Lumber legacy was started in 1957.

The Growing Years

We have complimentary books entitled “The Mill Reserve” that gives a history of the company. From humble beginnings, the company now employs 70 people and has a Rent-All department. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2007 and we had a replica of our first delivery truck on display.

Our Plan for the Future

With a keen interest in keeping abreast of building practice changes and technology, we have been able to keep to the forefront in the building business.

Plans drawn by people who supply the build.

Over the years, thousands of customers have received the benefit of our design department. We have a setup whereby we can design a set of plans that are correct, detailed, ready for the contractor to build by. As we are fundamentally in the building supply business, we are aware of new products and changing building codes. We charge a nominal fee (much less than architects) for this service but if you agree to purchase the majority of the materials for the project from us, the fee is fully refunded.

The kitchen of your dreams, built to order.

We are one of the county’s leading suppliers of kitchens. We primarily use the European style of cabinets and design the kitchen of your dreams with 20/20 kitchen software in 3D. Although pre-packaged cabinets are available, most of our projects are “built-to-order”. We have two expert kitchen designers on staff in our showroom. We also provide free delivery for the cabinets.

Contractor & business accounts

Emmerson Credit Application

For those larger accounts (e.g. building a house or cottage), or for the convenience of shopping at our company on a long term basis, you can open a “house account”. A credit application will need to be filled out and then approved by our credit manager. Statements with your invoices will be mailed or emailed out on the first day of each month.
